In the world today, blue collar workers are people with little or no education with a low income job. White collars are difference, unlike blue collar workers they went to college and have a high paying job. The status of these two lines of work have had an hugh impact on society. These ideas are found in two essays about the line between blue collar and white collar have change the lives of two men. In the first essay called "Who built the pyramids" by Mike Lefevre, the writer talks about the problems he face as a blue collar worker. He then talks about what are the status of the two lines of work. In the second essay called "Blue collar brillance" by Mike Rose, the writer talks about how blue collar and white collar can relate to each other and how their the same. Using both essay, The status between blue collar and white collar workers are difference and impact the work place. In the essay "who built the pyramids" by Mike Lefevre gives the reader his idea about status in the work place. In the beginning of the essay, Lefevre begins to talk about the issues of his job. He works as an construction worker during the 1970s. One issue he face isn't getting enough credit. As Lefevre stated "It's not just the work somebody built the pyramids somebody's going to build something...I would like to see on one side of it a foot-wide strip from top to bottom with the name of every brick layer, the name of every electrician, with all the names"(xxxii, Lefevre). Lefevre show the status of the blue collar workers, like himself who builted objects. He feels that people are not grateful for the work blue collar workers do. People should know that every thing they see comes from hard every day workers like themself. Lefevre also shows that this is how the status for blue collar been for years. Blue collars workers isn't view as an job important in our society. Lefevre then went on to talk about white collar workers. White collars is an other issue about his job. Legevre said "This one foreman I've got, he's a kid. He's a college graduate. He thinks he's better then everybody else"(xxxiii, Lefevre). Lefevre show the status for white collar workers like his foreman. His foreman is shown to have gotten his status just by going to college. Due to the fact that education is a big part of a job that separate the blue and white collars. Also Lefevre show how white collars view themselfs as superior then the blue collar workers just because they went to school. Showing that education can help or hurt a person when it comes to work. In the essay "Blue collar brillance" by Mike Rose give the reader his about status. In the beginning of the essay, Rose talks about one of his childhood. He talk about his mother job as a waitress in a diner. He states "Like anyone who is effective at physcal work, my mother learned to work smart as she put it, to make every move count"(Rose). Rose show what he beileves is the true status of a blue collar worker. True blue collar workers not only used their body but also their minds to get the job done. His mother is a perfect example of how blue collar workers are able to used their brain in order to get the task done. Rose wants to show that there might be no difference between the two groups. Blue collar workers might have an important job. Rose then went on to talk about what people beileve is the true differences between the gourps. He saids "Intelligence is closely associated with formal education - type of schooling a person has, how much and how long and most people seem to move comforably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling, requires less schooling requires less intelligence"(Rose). Rose shows what gives a white collar and blue collar worker their status. When people ask about the two gourps they think about the education they have. People will view the higher the education, the higher the status you are. Education is the key for a blue collar and white collar to earn their status in the work place. This idea is the only thing that our society cares about when it comes to founding work. In the end of the day the status between both blue collar and white collar workers how an hugh impact on the work place. Even though blue collar workers isn't as high as every beileve they be, they prove to how a big impact. These kinds of worker are shown to used as much as there brain as a white collars. Both men can agree on one thing about status. Status is going to be always base on the type of education you have. The higer the education, the higher the status.
