WHO BUILT THE PYRAMIDS?
Mike feels that he is dying breed. He is working in steel mill. Most of the time,he pick it up, put it down. Its a heavy lifting of 400 pound to three and fourn pieces. He feels that he could not take any pride from his work.I quote,"You don't see where nothing goes".He wants to do job where he could be a part of it and can see the end result. He says one time, he got a tiny satisfaction when he load a truck and saw it departing. He is not excited with his work because it makes him tired and sitdown. He wants a work that can take pride of and can point it out to his son and show him that he is part of it.He gives the example,i quote "there is a hard work behind it.i would like to see building, say Empire State Building- these things i would like to see on one side of it a foot-wide strip from top to bottom with the name of every bricklayer , the names of every electrician with all the names. He is not doing something which out of curiosity but out of necessary. When he says that his son to ben"an effete snob", he and his friends does not want their kids to work in factory. If you can't improve yourself ,you improve your posterityor the future generations.Otherwisenlife isn't worth nothing.Mike most likely to change is the number of hours he has to work . If he gets twenty hours work, he could spend time with his wife and kids and know them better. And also he could take them to pcinic and college campus.when he says he wants his son to be an effete snob,he does not want his son to be like him.Every job is same and all are interdependent .The painter owes something to the professor or the professor shouldnot be ashmed of painting his house in weekends. Every job is as noble as other.
