In this essay Mike is pointing out how he views hard labor work and the type of intelligence you can receive from it.He also talks about how intelligence dose not just need to be associated with school. Mike is arguing against how workers such as the white collar workers are more focused on the value of their work rather than the kind of thought it requires. He also argues how intelligence is put out to be that the more higher your level of education is the more intelligent people per sieve you as and mike is saying how that is not always the case. In Mikes essay he looks deep inside how Blue and pink collar workers value their and study the true meaning of their job. Mike argues how working is very important and how it gives a person time to study and evaluate what type of work they do and how that actually makes a person intelligent, the fact they study their jobs and can potentially make the person for successful because of the kind of work they do.
Mikes essay and Terkels chapter have very different point of views. Mikes essay goes deeper and makes you think a little bit more on how a labor job can make a persons mind expand and he talks about the positive things it can bring you. Terkels Chapter is very different it basically says that working hard is not whats best. He focus more on the physical aspect of work and working long hours and also how you get no credit working as hard as you do. He brings out a more obvious point of view than Mikes. Mike observes the type of way the workers work and how they deal with the kind of job they have. Terkel gives complains on how hes work is terrible and there is nothing positive about it and how he copes with drinking as a stress reliever.
Good overview and connections. It's interesting that you say that Terkel's point of view is more "obvious" than Terkel's. Can you explain what you mean by this? Also, is it Terkel's perspective exactly that you're talking about?
