In the essay "Blue Collar Brillance" Mike Rose gives his point of view on the physical labor work , the type of physical strain and intelligence they gain and require due to their occupation. Mike argues against those who are socially biases to a person place on the occupational ladder, that these thinkers diminish the work of the physical and service workers and their endeavors. Mike also says that these type of thinkers solely believe plumbers, hairstylist, waitresses and welders etc. are only about the physical aspects of work. Mike argues against the biases thinkers of the world through his studies of white ,blue, and pink collar workers . Mike stresses the facts of the endeavors of the physical and service workers such as their notions of the workers routine performance which requires quick decision making and mental activity involved in these workers daily routines. He also argues the value and study that these and pink collar workers endure everyday. Mike also discusses that along the lines of these occupations involve a great amount of intelligence besides the physical in which they also gain a get deal of .
Mike Rose's essay "Blue Collar Brillance" shares the same ideals as Terkels chapter "Who built the Pyramids" from Mike Lefevre the steel mill workers point of view . The reason I feel that these to text are relatable because both Mike Rose and Mike Lefevre express the ways of those that don't think blue collar and pink collar have the sense of intelligence in their line of work . Also share the idea that people diminish these physical and service occupations as well as solely acknowledge and compensate the work of intelligence involvement in white collar work and professional work and look down upon those of physical work and service work . This is where Mike Rose and Mike Lefevre share the ideal that these physical workers share more then just physical but also brain and involvement in these workers everyday lives and that these lines of work aren't for just those who don't have a college or high school degree or that its just for those who don't have great intelligence like those who are doctors, lawyers, and dentist etc. These to text have changed my perspective and maybe yours as well to have more of a respect and now a great understanding for those who do physical and not just those who do white collared work .

ReplyDeleteVery good job giving an overview of Rose's essay and the connections to Terkel. We'll be looking at transitions and how to put texts in relationship to each other. Look at this sentence where you do this: "Mike Rose's essay "Blue Collar Brillance" shares the same ideals as Terkels chapter "Who built the Pyramids" from Mike Lefevre the steel mill workers point of view." Try reading this aloud and see what you notice. How could you rework it for a smoother transition. Look forward to reading your essay draft.
