BLUE
COLLAR BRILLIANCE
Nowadays, many people think that
blue collar jobs are only for people who are not intelligent or people who are
not graduate from college. After reading the essay of Mike Rose "Blue
Collar Brilliance." I agree with him because he talks about how
intelligence was his mother although she was not graduate from college. For
Example, when Mike's mother worked as a waitress, she had to do physical work but
the most surprise for Mike Rose was about how her mother could memorize a lot
of orders from different customers and remember each order from each person at
the same time. Another example that Mike Rose mentioned in this essay was about
the intelligence of blue collar workers was that his uncle named Joe who did not finish his
education and he worked in a factory. In his job, Joe learned how to solve
problems in his line and how to control his mind in order to memorize numbers.
In addition, within Joe scaled to a manager position his job thanks to his
intelligence. That is why I think that blue collar workers do not meant people
who are less smart than others who are graduate from college. It depends of the
person's capacity about what they are doing in their jobs to be successful.
Connecting with that point of view
of Mike Lefevre story from "Working". He thinks different about blue
collar workers. He said that he does not like his job because it is a routine
that does have anything challenged to do. Also according to Mike Lefevre, he
said that in his job he never could get a higher position because of the lack
of education. Unlike, Mike Rose' story , his mother's brother obtained a
manager position in his blue collar work without thinking if he was graduating
from college or not.
Good job going through some of Rose's examples. Look at your first couple sentences. Do you see how they make it sounds as though Rose agrees with the people you mention in the first sentence? How would you add an extra step to clear this up?
