"Exploring the managed heart" and "A day without care"

In exploring the managed heart two type of jobs are being compared, labor work at a Wallpaper factory and a job as a stewardess. when you think about these two jobs you wouldn't even think of comparing them, but in this article it talks about how the two jobs aren't has different as you may think. Both jobs gives you similar conclusion. For a worker in the wallpaper factory knows his job is done a good has been produced. Now for a flight attendant the service has been produced. A flight attendant has to love the job because that become a part of the job. What she means by emotional labor is to have feelings in what you are doing and have people see that you care and keep them at ease. I honestly feel like both of the jobs are very exhausting in their own way. They both have very long hours. They both contains some type of physical work even though the wallpaper worker contains more physical work. Both of their job consists of a repetition, they do the same thing every single time. I think both of the jobs are bad. The job that I think is more alienated has to be that wallpaper factory job. The reason for that is because this type of job can really affect you not only physically but emotionally, he becomes the machine that he is working with, what I mean by that is that the machines end up controlling him. Which is a way of being alienated.

  1. Good overview: I'm interested in your comment about both knowing when the work is done. Is that what Hochschild argues? Look again at the text and relate her ideas to yours.
